BIO

Hello, my name is Sean O'Brien.  I am a singer, songwriter, musician, engineer, producer, husband, and father of three. Growing up, I was surrounded with music.  My father was a singer, songwriter, and a musician.  Every room in our home, including our basement and shed, was filled with all kinds of musical instruments.  My father tried his hardest to get me to play the guitar, the piano, and even the mandolin when I was young, but I wanted no part of it.  After years of him trying to get me interested in music, he finally gave up.  When I was about ten years old, I developed a nasty temper.  In an attempt to cure my temper and get me interested in music, my parents surprised me with a set of drums.  I don’t know why, but I fell in love with those drums.  I would play them from the time I woke up to the time I went to sleep and my temper had vanished.

After playing the drums for a few months, I decided I wanted to learn how to play guitar.  So I asked my father to teach me to play guitar.  After playing the guitar for two months, I decided it was time to write a song about my girlfriend, who later became my wife and still is today.  I wrote and recorded this song using two cassette players, “ghetto blasters” as they were called back then.  When I finished recording my first song, the recording was complete with drums, bass, rhythm guitar, lead guitar and a lead vocal.  This is where my hunger to write and record began and still continues today.  Over the years, I have played many genres and been in many bands.  I’ve played everything from classical all the way to Hardcore Metal.  I was even the worship leader at my home church until health issues prevented me from doing so.  I’ve had the pleasure of playing with some famous, and some not so famous, people and I’ve enjoyed them all; but the most enjoyable for me has always been working in a recording studio.  I love writing and recording music.  Whether it’s by myself, with a band, or co-writing with someone, I truly love working in the studio.

When I turned forty, I was diagnosed with a rare connective tissue disorder called Ehlers Danlos Syndrome or EDS.  The effects of EDS have left me disabled.  However, I continue to write and record music in my home studio.  Because of EDS, my days are filled with great physical pain and many daily struggles, but music has been a God-send for me.  It gives me purpose and It’s great therapy.  Because of the pain and medications I take, it is VERY difficult for me to play any instrument and to sing but I continue to push forward each day.  I may not be able to play, write, or record as much as I’d like, but I keep pushing forward.  Sometimes days, if not weeks, go by before I’m able to lay down a five minute guitar part.

You many ask, "Why do you continue to write and record if it’s so painful?”  I have a few reasons why.  First, as I mentioned before, it gives me purpose and it’s great therapy .  Second, I love doing it.  Third, and most importantly, I love using the gift of music to praise and worship my Lord and Savior and I hope that the songs I write and record will encourage and help others with the daily struggles that they are facing.
